TOPIC: "Crystal Clear, and Home-Grown or Hand-Rolled Agile Methods"

SPEAKER: Alistair Cockburn, internationally renowned project 
witchdoctor and IT strategist, is best known for describing Software
development as a Cooperative Game, for helping craft the Agile 
Development Manifesto, and for finally defining Use Cases.

ABSTRACT: Alistair just put the finishing touches on his book,
Crystal Clear: A Human-Powered Methodology for Small Teams. Since
it is largely about rolling your own methodology, it is appropriate
to include that in the evening's discussions.  This evening will start 
with more lecture-style presentation about the Crystal family and 
Crystal Clear in particular, and morph into an open discussion about 
home-grown or hand-rolled methods.

SPEAKER BIO:
 Alistair Cockburn,President of Humans and Technology, has authored:
"Surviving Object-Oriented Projects" (1998)
"Writing Effective Use Cases" (Jolt Productivity Award 2001)
"Agile Software Development" (Jolt Productivity Award 2002)
"Crystal Clear: A Human-Powered Methodology for Small Teams" (2004)

Dr. Cockburn received his Ph.D. on "People and Methodologies in 
Software Development" based on project debriefings and projects run 
throughout the 1990s. The results became the basis for the 
"Cooperative Game" concept and were incorporated into the Agile 
Development Manifesto in 2001. 
 
Dr. Cockburn wrote one of the first agile methodologies, for the 
IBM Consulting Group in 1992 based on early project debriefings. He 
was lead consultant on a 1994-1995 fixed-time, fixed-price $24M 
project that successfully used that methodology. Since then he has 
consulted around the world on organizational design, process and 
methodology design, requirements gathering and project management 
(the subject of his next book). He served as special advisor to the 
Central Bank of Norway, and has worked in companies from Scandinavia 
to South Africa, North America to China. 
 
In his 30-year career he has led hardware and software projects in 
industry, government and in research, ranging from real-time flight 
simulator computer graphics hardware, software development 
environments, and in-house application software.
 
Internationally, he is known for his seminal work on methodologies 
and use cases, as well as his lively presentations and interactive
workshops.
